Eggplants

eggplants

This painting is really all about two colors. Raw siena produces the bright orange when very diluted with turpentine. Eggplants, of course, are intensely purple with bright highlights because of their shiny surface. I painted a different still life of eggplants when I was young and that painting was damaged in a fire. This is the replacement. This one shows off the high contrast colors, the strong diagonal composition, and the different gloss of the eggplant, the table, and the cloth.
